Ivanhoe
A wealthy family friendly suburb with plenty of bigger homes, trees and parkland
Ivanhoe, Melbourne (North east)
If you are a head banger into heavy metal music, don't move to Ivanhoe. Ivanhoe is 'pretty suburbia' with plenty of greenery and a bit of olde worlde charm. It's the sort of place that appeals to reasonably wealthy, but not entirely adventurous, people. There a couple of good private schools. There's also an eclectic mix of shops and some fab Art Deco architecture. Actress Cate Blanchett grew up here. (More info below and to your left <<<)

If this suburb were a shoe, it would be a Colorado and Country Road

Ivanhoe's main shopping strip is on Upper Heidelberg Road. Some shops attract the wealthier residents who like the comfort of going to a known brand and hanging out with other like minded people!
Other shops, like Popula (Japanese take away) are amazing but would only be noticed by the inquisitive and fans of Japanese cuisine.
The houses in Ivanhoe are big, and vary from Federation to Californian Bungalow to modern things. Most are on larger blocks and in tree-lined streets. In summer, these streets make for great shade.
One of the best things about Ivanhoe is the Christmas lights on display in a street called The Boulevard. In the week before Christmas tens of thousands of people from all over Melbourne come to see the display.
