Redfern
The trendy have been moving in, in what has traditionally been a rough, poor part of town.
Redfern, Sydney (east)
Redfern has its fans and its detractors. In recent years, professionals unable to afford properties in neighbouring Surry Hills have been moving in, changing the traditional working class, rough image in East Redfern. Terraces have been renovated, warehouses have been converted, and cool cafes have opened up, in East Redfern. As for Redfern proper, it's not everyone's cup of tea. Some still find it rough and depressing. (More info below and to your left <<<)
There are still some parts of Redfern that look unappealing and may make outsiders feel on edge. The streets near the train station are a case in point. But East Redfern is quite different. It has tree lined streets, some good cafes and more than a few professionals living there.
