Kelvin Grove
A convenient suburb popular with students and Royal Brisbane Hospital staff
Kelvin Grove, Brisbane (0-5km)
Kelvin Grove is one of those places that you have to live in to appreciate. It has attractive streets, but lacks an overriding identity or soul, which might explain why the Kelvin Grove Urban Village has been built. This is a very convenient suburb for students at QUT, and anyone who works at the Royal Brisbane Hospital. It is close to Paddington and the city centre. In recent years, more apartments have gone up. The best thing about this suburb is the weekly Village Markets held very Saturday morning. (More info below and to your left <<<)
There has been a concerted effort to create more of a buzz in Kelvin Grove with the development of the Urban Village Precinct. It's higher density living, where the focus is on a village centre, accommodation for people on low to medium incomes, andwalking paths to encourage people to walk to cafes etc. There are some cafes here, a supermarket, and a few other shops. The village is where the Saturday market is held, in Blamey St from 6am to 1pm. The market sells fruit and veg, clothes, second had stuff and some crafts. It gets busy.
