Albert Park
An affluent suburb with a beach, great architecture and a huge selection of good cafes and restaurants.
Albert Park, Melbourne (inner south)
Albert Park is extremely pleasant. Wide tree-lined streets, impressive Victorian architecture, an attractive village shopping centre with quality cafes, an award winning book shop and the most highly awarded ice-cream maker in Victoria, all help give Albert Park a bit of a chi-chi feel. Its on the bay, on a tram route, and full of professionals with decent pay packets and a thirst for good books, good food, and good coffee. It is clean and safe. So what keeps this place real? The small number of public housing tenants. Albert Park is one of the few suburbs in Melbourne where the shopping village is not ruined by a large amount of through traffic. Its also home to the old Biltmore building - a grand coffee house built during the gold rush, as part of the temperance movement to give people an alternative to pubs and drinking alcohol.
