Sorrento
A beachside suburb with all the trappings of a family friendly place
Sorrento, Perth (north west)
If you want to set up home by a great beach, watch your children grow up and feel safe and comfy in your home, Sorrento is the suburb for you. There’s a friendly vibe here, where neighbours know and say hello to each other.
This place has become quite affluent since the 1980s, attracting families because of its location and the three private schools in the vicinity. Many of the 80s houses here are being renovated and/or redeveloped. Some are single storey homes others are two storey modern McMansions. For grocery shopping etc the locals use either Seacrest Village shopping centre or drive to the shops in neighbouring Marmion and Duncraig. Politically, this is conservative territory.
Hillarys Boat Harbour, a tourist attraction with shops cafes and recreational activities, is just around the corner. A visit to the Harbour is a great way to pass the day. And why not finish off with a wine or two at the refurbished Breakwater Tavern?
Sorrento is 19km northwest of Perth. It has two main bus services which will take you to Warwick or Whitfords train stations where you can jump on the Clarkson railway line to the northeast or to the city.
