Leichhardt
The Italian heart of Sydney with plenty of buzz, cafes, shops and Victorian architecture. Overall, a gem.
Leichhardt, Sydney (inner west)
Cappuccino, pizza, gelati and some good looking waiters. Si Si. Leichhardt is so Italian. Norton Street is full of Italian cafes and restaurants and is always lively. There's also The Forum which is meant to resemble an Italian square, but more often acts as a navigational tool for planes flying to Sydney airport. Sometimes they fly so low, if you are a few bucks short of getting a cab to the airport, just throw up a lasso and hitch a ride.
Norton St also has plenty of bars, shops, health practitioners, beauty therapists, there’s an arthouse cinema which hosts international film festivals. There are bookstores, homewares shops, an organic butcher, clothing, shoes, JB Hi Fi, yadder, yadder, yadder. You could easily spend a few hours here at a casual pace. And if you like the idea of fair trade, the Anglican church on the corner of Marion and Norton streets has a Fair Trade Fair every Saturday morning.
